The Clinical Scholars Research program is a collaboration between the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Foundation and CHEER (Creating Health Care Excellence through Education and Research), funded by NIH grant # 5R33DC008632-04 provided by NIDCD.

The Evidence-Based Clinical Scholars Program offers clinicians the opportunity to develop skills in the field of otolaryngology and head and neck surgery research.

The program guides practitioners through the process of developing research topics within his or her own practice. Practitioners will be guided through the process of writing formal protocols for funding submissions.

The Web-based program is presented in 20 modules over the course of one year. Clinical Scholars 101, Evidence-Based Medicine, covers the fundamental concepts of clinical research and evidence-based medicine. Clinical Scholars 102, Statistics, covers stats applicable to the research concepts outlined in 101. Certification of Clinical Research Training is awarded upon completion of both courses.

Selection of Researchers

Physicians and clinicians with a strong interest in the pursuit of patient–oriented research development are sought for participation in the program. The program specifically looks for individuals who are motivated to learn, driven to succeed and who show a dedicated interest in the promotion of evidence-based research endeavors. This is an open enrollment program.

Course of Study

Each course includes e-lectures, reading assignments and online quizzes.

** A minimum grade of 80% is required for each quiz **. Multiple attempts are allowed.

Completion of the evaluation for each module is required.

Total estimated time to complete entire curriculum over one year: 60 hours.
